Many illnesses and chronic conditions can present for a long time without causing severe pain. High blood pressure doesn’t hurt, until it results in a Heart Attack! Like any other condition, gum disease is most easily treated when it is caught early. This is why it is important to be seen twice a year for professional teeth cleaning visits.

This is tailored to each patient individually. Conservative treatment for mild cases is called root planning or “Deep Cleaning”. This performed one corner of the mouth at a time while that area is numb. It is more aggressive than a traditional cleaning because the entire exposed root surface of the tooth and planed and polished the entire mouth is treated over two to four visits. (Until the root is smooth again)

In more severe cases a combination of gum surgery and gum grafting may be necessary.
After an evolution Dr. Matrullo and Associates can recommend the appropriate procedure.
